Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and sauté for 3-4 minutes, or until soft. Stir in the cinnamon, chili powder and cayenne pepper and cook for 1 minute. Add tomato sauce and water and stir until well combined. Bring to a simmer and cook until the sauce thickens about 10-15 minutes.
Meanwhile, boil the frankfurters according to packet insturctions. Drain dogs and pop into a hot griddle pan with a tablespoon of oil. Quickly char all sides for 1 - 2 minutes.
Slice buns open and top with a charred dog,m sauerkraut and lots of onion sauce and mustard. Enjoy!
